Yesterday, Bushfire Volunteers’ Treasurer Lorraine Webster, and members Rhys McDonald and John Mangini joined government officials including DFES WA Commissioner Darren Klemm AFSM, Minister for Emergency Services/Volunteering Reece Whitby and Governor of Western Australia Kim Beazley AC, along with fellow firefighters and families of the fallen to stand together at the International Firefighters’ Day Memorial Service.

The Memorial Service was held by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services at Firefighters’ Memorial Grove in Kings Park to acknowledge Western Australian firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

International Firefighters’ Day is observed each year on May 4th (tomorrow). With “Sound Off” being held on the first Sunday in May at noon every year, 30 seconds of fire sirens followed by a minute of silence in memory of all firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty or passed before us.
