ABC Country Hour presenter Jessica Hayes interviewed Worksafe Commmissioner Darren Kavanagh about growing concerns that the State’s Work Health and Safety Act will have devastating, unforeseen impacts on our volunteer bush fire brigade and farmer response unit members and perhaps emergency service volunteering in general.

The association made representation to the government about a number of issues last year before the Bill had passed Parliament, we have raised the issues with Ministers since and will continue to lobby for clarity and sensible regulations that protect our members (including those in leadership positions) with the least amount of red tape or other burdens to volunteers (such as uneccessary training or other things that only “tick boxes”).

Have a listen to the excellent interview provided by our friends at the ABC during which Worksafe Commissioner Darren Kavanagh clearly indicates his respect for WA’s largest emergency service – local government bush fire volunteers and the association as the peak body.
