Association note: Great to see Minister Whitby supporting our friends and colleagues in the State Emergency Service (SES)!

  • Show appreciation for the State Emergency Service (SES) with orange attire
  • SES volunteers responded to more than 2,700 incidents across WA over the past year
  • Perth landmarks to be lit up orange to recognise their efforts

Western Australians are encouraged to wear orange tomorrow to celebrate the achievements of the State’s 2,000 State Emergency Service volunteers.

The McGowan Government will recognise the invaluable contribution of the SES who, during the devastating impacts of Tropical Cyclone Seroja, received more than 1,600 calls for help.

Throughout the year, SES volunteers drop everything and don their orange overalls to respond to storms, cyclones, floods, land searches, vertical rescues and car crashes.

Over the past year, volunteers have devoted more than 21,000 hours responding to 2,702 incidents throughout WA.

They play an instrumental role helping communities prepare for emergencies, as they did in the lead-up to Seroja, and provide vital support during major incidents such as the devastating Wooroloo bushfire.

This WOW Day several landmarks across WA will be lit up in orange including Matagarup Bridge, the Perth Bell Tower, Elizabeth Quay and Brookfield Place.

Comments attributed to Emergency Services Minister Reece Whitby:

“The past 12 months have been particularly challenging for our emergency services with the Wooroloo Bushfire and Tropical Cyclone Seroja devastating parts of our State – our SES units have been instrumental in both the initial response and the subsequent recovery efforts.

“The people of Western Australia are incredibly fortunate to have these men and women who put their personal lives on hold to help those in need.

“Our SES volunteers come from all ages and all walks of life. Their contribution to our State is invaluable and I would encourage everyone to wear their brightest orange tomorrow to show our appreciation of the SES.”
