Our great friends at Volunteering WA have opened nominations for the 2019 Volunteer of the Year Awards.
One of our most important roles at the Association of Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades (AVBFB) is to promote the invaluable, diverse and rewarding nature of doing what our amazing 26,000 women and men do for our community – and this is one way everyone can help. We know that many volunteers are almost embarrassed to receive public recognition for their work – mostly because they know 100 others who they reckon are just as deserving.
But being recognised for your volunteering it isn’t about self-promotion or ego. When one person or group is publicly recognised for their work, we see it as an important symbol to every other volunteer that our community values the work they all do, and awarding one is merely because it is impractical to award everyone.
With that in mind, if you know an individual or team of emergency services volunteers who are a great example of what we’re all about, we strongly encourage you to nominate her/him/them for one of these eight categories in the 2019 Volunteer of the Year Awards:
- The WA Volunteer of the Year
- The WA Youth Volunteer of the Year
- The WA Lifetime Contribution to Volunteering
- The WA Excellence in Volunteer Management
- The WA Volunteer for Multicultural Communities Award
- The WA People’s Choice ‘Spirit of Volunteering’ Award
