Below is an email from Emergency Management Australia with information regarding its new scholarship program for volunteers to study accredited and higher education qualifications in emergency management. Please share widely!

Good morning AEMVF members

As mentioned in the meeting last week, the Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience (AIDR) will administer the new scholarship program which will open for applications on 1 June 2017.

Sponsor's message

Eligible volunteers can receive financial support to study accredited vocational and higher education qualifications in emergency and disaster management disciplines. They can receive up to $12,000 for successfully completing vocational education and training and up to $25,000 for higher education through the scholarship program.

Many of Australia’s emergency management volunteers will be eligible to apply. The scholarship program has been given some performance targets and at least 50 per cent of the scholarship fund will be set aside for volunteers who live and volunteer outside a capital city. AIDR will also be encouraging applications from female volunteers and those from an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background.

For this program to provide real benefits to your organisation and to emergency management capabilities across Australia, AIDR needs people like yourself to champion this program. Your support and encouragement in promoting this to your volunteers will be invaluable.

To apply, volunteers will need to include a letter of endorsement from their organisation, as either an AEMVF member or affiliate, or from an agency otherwise formally recognised in jurisdictional emergency management arrangements. This gives each AEMVF member organisation the important responsibility of putting your best names forward. In so doing, if you are seeking to coordinate endorsements, could you provide contact details for the coordinating officer prior to commencement on June 1.

All correspondence and feedback can be directed to the Program Manager, Marc Bellette at
