Despite the lack of coverage on metropolitan “mainstream” media, it’s been a very busy period for many of our incredible volunteer firefighters, their families and support networks. And from the many fine examples, we’ve chosen this post from the amazing women and men at the Waggrakine Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade in the City of Greater Geraldton because it say so much with such few words – just enough to give us all an understanding of the huge team it takes to keep the whole of our great state safe.

Thanks to the incredible 26,000 women and men of WA’s largest emergency service, the Volunteer Bush Fire Service.

Thanks to their families who not only tolerate, but support the incredible commitment of time and energy it takes to protect the lives and property of others.

Thanks to their employers who support and often continue to pay their staff even when they are working for the community instead of the business.

Thanks to the DFES and other government staff who support our amazing unpaid workforce.

And thank you Waggrakine for sharing this invaluable insight into what makes our diverse network of amazing volunteer bush fire brigades such an asset to Western Australia.
