Please find below a Fact Sheet recently produced by the Association of Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades (AVBFB) regarding the current numbers of operational personnel registered with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) across the 6 FES services that come together to protect the communities of our great state of Western Australia.
Synopsis
The chart above shows the breakdown of “operational” volunteer and paid personnel registered with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES).
The raw data below reflects DFES information and was collated from the its website (accessed 22 June 2019) and Hansard of State Parliament 23 May 2019.
Service | Operational personnel registered with DFES |
Volunteer Bush Fire Service (VBFS)* | 15,700 |
State Emergency Service (SES) | 1,560 |
Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service (VFRS) | 2,167 |
Volunteer Fire and Emergency Service (VFES) | 823 |
Volunteer Marine Rescue Service (VMRS) | 1,631 |
Career Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) | 1,125 |
TOTAL | 23,006 |
*NOTE: Volunteer Bush Fire Service personnel are managed by more than 100 individual Local Government Authorities. Other service personnel register directly with DFES. Therefore, the numbers reported by DFES above are very accurate for all services but the VBFS, which is very likely to be substantially under-reported.
