We are a little bit torn about publishing these posts because the last thing we want to do is give the impression that volunteer emergency services brigades are some sort of easy target.
But in balance, we think it is better to raise the issue publicly in the hope that doing so prompts our wonderful community to take a long hard look whenever they pass by one of incredible brigades and report anything that looks remotely suspicious to Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 or your local council ASAP.
The post below from the Stoneville Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade says all that needs to be said for most of us, but we have to assume the thieves doing this stuff are particularly light on in the brain department so we will spell it out, especially for them:
Stealing is a crime.
Stealing from volunteers is also immoral.
Stealing from volunteers who risk their lives to protect yours is bloody moronic.
The incredible 26,000 women and men of the Volunteer Bush Fire Service have a shitload more important things to do with their time than compensate for this kind of selfishness and clean up the mess it leaves behind.
We urge everyone to keep your eyes open when passing any emergency service brigade and help us make sure these fools are caught and punished.
If your Brigade has been damaged by an idiot and would like us to help call for community vigilance, please let us know: firstname.lastname@example.org
