WA’s most outstanding firefighters were recognised at the 2014 Firefighting Awards on Sunday.
Five awards were handed out during the ceremony at Perth Exhibition Convention Centre for volunteer and career firefighters who have excelled while serving WA communities.
Firefighters from Broome, Boddington, Cue, Fitzroy Crossing and Perth received awards.
Among the recipients was Kenn McLeod from Fitzroy Crossing Volunteer Emergency Service.
Mr McLeod was recognised for his work in a unit that is responsible for firefighting across a vast geographical area, with the closest back-up 300km away.
Kellie Bullen was awarded the Youth Achievement Award for her contribution on the ground and her role as secretary for her brigade in Broome.
Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Wayne Gregson said it took a special person to become a firefighter.
“These exceptional people have each shown dedication and commitment to helping at a time when the community needs them the most,” he said.
